Pulwama, Apr 26 (KNO): Amid the heavy hike in monthly electricity tariffs across Kashmir, residents of Dangerpora Padgampora in Awantipora are still struggling with poor power infrastructure and have demanded enhancement of power infrastructure. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the residents said that dangling electric wires tied with trees and old poles are posing grave threat to their lives as well as to their property. They alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees in their villages since decades but no attention is being given towards it. They said that poor LT infrastructure often leads to faults causing unscheduled power cuts. Mohammad Yousuf, a local, said that the electric lines touch roofs of houses and trees on roads posing risk to life and property and due to low lying overhead transmission lines. He said that lines are very weak and fell down frequently thereby risking lives of people. “We have been repeatedly requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fell on deaf ears,” he said. Gulzar Ahmad another local said that despite raising the issue in all back to Village programmes, locals are yet to see any development. "Most of LT wires in our village have been tied with trees in the absence of poles due to which the wires are very low and very weak as well which often get damaged,” he said. Locals said that they have repeatedly brought this issue in notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail. They said that despite repeated hikes in tariff they have been paying monthly tariffs on time but they are receiving unscheduled plans with poor power infrastructure. They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard so that people won't suffer anymore—(KNO)
